The NBA playoffs consist of 16 teams, 8 from each conference, who qualify based on their regular season performance. These teams are ranked 1-8 in each conference according to their win-loss record over an 82-game schedule. The playoffs begin with the first round series, which are played in a best-of-seven format. The series follow a 2-2-1-1-1 format, where the team with the higher seed plays two games at home, followed by two games at the lower seed's home court, then alternating one game at each team's home court, and concluding with a potential Game 7 at the higher seed's home court. The first round pairings are as follows: #1 seed vs #8 seed, #2 seed vs #7 seed, #3 seed vs #6 seed, and #4 seed vs #5 seed. The team with the higher seed always has the advantage of playing one extra game at home.

The conference semi-finals follow the same format as the first round, with the winners of the first round matchups facing each other. The pairings are determined by the bracket: the winner of #1 vs #8 plays the winner of #4 vs #5, and the winner of #3 vs #6 plays the winner of #2 vs #7. The team with the higher seed retains home court advantage in these matchups as well.

After the conference semi-finals, the two remaining teams from each conference advance to the conference finals. This round is also a best-of-seven series, with the higher seed enjoying home court advantage.

Finally, the NBA Finals feature a best-of-seven series between the champions of the Eastern and Western Conferences. The team with the better regular season record between the two finalists is granted home court advantage for the NBA Finals.
