Chelsea's poor performance this season has put manager Pochettino at risk of dismissal, leading some to hope for Mourinho's third tenure. However, media reports suggest current owner Boehly opposes Mourinho's return, seeing echoes of former owner Abramovich in him.
Mourinho has coached Chelsea twice. During a period when Chelsea was mocked for spending without securing major trophies, Mourinho's coaching led the team to win the Premier League, shedding the label of reckless spenders. Both of his coaching stints helped Chelsea win the Premier League, but he was dismissed both times due to locker room discord.
However, Chelsea's current poor performance reflects a departure from its past reputation of having a strong team spirit. The team is currently ranked eleventh in the league, with little hope of competing for the title or even securing a place in European competitions. Many people hope for Pochettino's dismissal and Mourinho's return to coaching, recalling how Mourinho turned Chelsea from an underdog into champions. Unfortunately, current owner Boehly does not share this sentiment.
Since taking over Chelsea, Boehly has made significant investments, but one of his criticized actions is his tendency to dismiss individuals associated with former owner Abramovich, including medical staff, the sporting director, and even merchandise and coaches endorsed by Abramovich. According to media reports, Boehly does not want individuals with Abramovich's influence in the team. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that Mourinho will return to Chelsea, as it would send the wrong message and hinder Boehly's leadership of the club. |
