Dog, cat, or frog? Which animal coin is leading the surge in this round of the bull market?
Memecoin traders find themselves in a species battle as cryptocurrency prices approach historic highs, with tokens themed around frogs, dogs, and cats surging by three to four digits in the past month.
In just the past 24 hours, dog-themed tokens led by Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB) have generated over $24.2 billion in trading volume, while cat-themed tokens, such as Popcat (POPCAT) based on Solana, recorded a trading volume of $63.4 million within the same time frame, according to CoinGecko data.
However, some animal-themed tokens outperform others.
The best-performing dog-themed token last month was Dogwifhat (WIF) based on Solana, which surged by 620% compared to the previous month, rising from $0.22 on February 4th to $1.55 at the time of publication. Since its inception on November 20th, WIF has yielded returns exceeding 100,000%, although few traders may be aware of such returns.
Meanwhile, the best-performing cat-themed token was Popcat (POPCAT) based on Solana, which witnessed a surge of over 1,400% in the past 30 days, climbing from $0.006 on February 4th to $0.10 at the time of publication.
Dogecoin also experienced a sudden surge last week, with gains slightly exceeding 117% over the past 7 days. Similarly, Shiba Inu saw gains of over 323% during the same period.
In addition to cats and dogs, a few frog-themed tokens have shown strong performance, with the memecoin Pepe (PEPE) taking the lead.
After plummeting by 83% from its all-time high set on May 6th, 2023, PEPE was widely declared "dead," but starting from February 25th, both its price and trading volume began to grow rapidly.
PEPE broke its previous all-time high of $0.00000372 on March 2nd, doubling in price thereafter. As of the time of this writing, PEPE's turnover price is $0.00000802, marking a 781% increase in the past 30 days.
PEPE generated over $4.2 billion in trading volume in the past 24 hours. |
