Manchester United's £100 million man Anthony has been absent from the headlines for a long time, mainly because of his poor performance. He hasn't started a game for Manchester United in a while. There are rumors that the new owner of Manchester United wants to offload Anthony and bring in a new winger. However, even in such difficult circumstances, Ten Hag, the coach who advocated for signing him, still wants to keep him. What is Ten Hag's intention?

This season, Anthony's performance has been poor. He has only scored one goal in 25 appearances for Manchester United, and that goal was against a League Two team. In the Premier League, he has yet to score or provide an assist, which does not justify his €100 million transfer fee. Ultimately, under the pressure of results, Ten Hag, who advocated for Anthony's signing, had to compromise with reality and chose to sideline him, opting instead for a front three of Garnacho, Rashford, and Højlund, which revitalized Manchester United's attack and improved their results.

In the match against Fulham, Anthony was even brought on in the 99th minute when there were only a few minutes left in the game. This was undoubtedly a blatant humiliation for Anthony, but fans hardly sympathized with the winger because of his dismal performances. It's rumored that the new owner wants to reset the performance standards, and players who haven't improved after two years will be shown the door, as Manchester United's performance standards have been too low in the past, leading to declining results. However, Ten Hag, who strongly supported Anthony's signing, wants to prevent his departure, believing that Anthony still has potential and can improve. But many see Ten Hag's actions as merely saving face for himself, as there are rumors that the new owner wants to regain control over transfers, as Ten Hag's transfer recommendations since taking office have been less than satisfactory. But Ten Hag is reluctant to relinquish the transfer power that was previously agreed upon, indicating that the tug-of-war between the Manchester United coach and the new owner will continue for some time.

Anthony is actually quite talented, isn't he? It seems like there are some issues within the Manchester United team, with the overall performance declining.

Ten Hag's strong support for Anthony may not only be about protecting the player's interests, but also about safeguarding his own position and reputation within the team. If Anthony performs poorly and is subsequently removed from the team, it could negatively impact Ten Hag's reputation, especially if Anthony finds success elsewhere, raising questions about Ten Hag's judgment and abilities.

On the other hand, the new owner may seek to completely change the team's status by getting rid of underperforming players, aiming to enhance the overall competitiveness of the team. This move is also aimed at demonstrating his determination for reform and management capabilities to fans and all stakeholders.

Manchester United's transfer strategy over the past decade has been rather 'puzzling.' They don't prioritize suitability but rather aim for the ceiling, often splurging on young players with immense potential. However, they completely overlook whether these players fit into the team's current tactical system. Many failures stem not from the players' abilities but rather their inability to integrate into the tactical setup. Over time, these players essentially become obsolete.

With Anthony, if things continue this way, his market value will only continue to decline.

Anthony used to have a transfer value of a hundred million only when he performed well. With his current performance, it's doubtful if he even has a fifty-million value.

In my memory, Anthony would always spin the ball around like that, making himself dizzy. It looks skillful, but actually serves no purpose...

Let's forget about Anthony. He only showed some potential in the Eredivisie, and as a Brazilian, he can't even dribble past opponents. Yet, somehow, he managed to secure a £100 million transfer to Manchester United in the English Premier League. One can only imagine how much Ten Hag pocketed in this deal. And all for a player who only knows how to draw circles. He even ruined the career of England's rising star, Sancho. Recently, Anthony can't even make it to the starting lineup and has been playing as a substitute without making any impact. He's still rubbish. If United could sell him for £40 million now, they'd be laughing all the way to the bank. Most likely, they won't be able to offload him even for a fraction of that price. Manchester United's transfer market haul in recent years has been pathetic. The high-priced players they've bought haven't lived up to their price tags. Fortunately, United has enough money to splurge. This season, there's still no hope of making the top four. I predict another major overhaul in the summer. Ultimately, it's the owners who have more say in the club. Ten Hag hasn't delivered results, and he needs to realize he's just a rubbish coach pretending to be a top manager. If he doesn't heed the owner's words, he might find himself packing his bags in the summer.
