On February 18th, Uruguayan forward Suárez recently gave an interview to "La Mesa" where he talked about his opportunity to join Real Madrid. Suárez said, "In 2014, my agent had talks with Real Madrid. Before the World Cup, Real Madrid wanted to sign me, and everything was heading in the right direction. Real Madrid was considering selling Benzema to Arsenal, and everything seemed appropriate.

"However, after the World Cup started, Barcelona entered the picture, and I preferred Barcelona. After some back and forth, Real Madrid lost interest in signing me, while Barcelona's interest grew stronger. In the end, I chose Barcelona; it was my dream."
