February 13th News: In the NBA regular season, the Rockets won 105-103 against the Knicks at home.
In the final moments of the game, the referee called a foul on Jaylen Brunsen against Aron Holiday, who subsequently made the free throw to secure the win for his team.
However, after the game, the head referee Ed Malloy admitted in an interview that the final call was incorrect. The interview went as follows:
Question: Why was a foul called on Brunsen against Holiday during the Rockets' last possession, resulting in free throws for Holiday?
Answer: At the time of the call, we believed there was illegal contact by the defender's lower body.
Question: After reviewing the replay, do the referees still believe this was the correct call?
Answer: After the game, we reviewed the replay, and the contact occurred after the offensive player released the ball. Additionally, the contact was minimal from the defender's perspective and should not have been called a foul.
Furthermore, since the Knicks had already used up their challenge earlier in the game, they were unable to challenge this call.
