Zimbabwe Cricket is undergoing a major overhaul after missing out on the ODI and T20 World Cups. They are looking for new coaches for both the men’s and women’s teams, as Prosper Utseya has quit as the U19 coach. Walter Chawaguta, a former first-class player, will take charge of the women’s team.

Chawaguta was also the interim coach of the men’s team for the Sri Lanka tour in January 2024, after Dave Houghton resigned due to poor performance in the World Cup qualifiers. The Zimbabwe Cricket Board met on February 11, led by Lloyd Mhishi, and announced a statement to investigate the reasons for the failure in the qualifiers. The board also agreed to some recommendations such as revamping the cricket affairs department and its staff, redesigning the domestic and development structures, advertising for the head coach positions of the U19 and senior men’s teams, and reshuffling the first-class coaching staff.

Zimbabwe Cricket also plans to establish a national academy and indoor training facilities in all the first-class provinces.
