Since joining Manchester United this season, goalkeeper Onana has been controversial, with numerous poor saves jeopardizing the team's prospects. Despite his subpar performance, Onana continues to stir trouble, such as his recent threat to quit the national team during the Africa Cup of Nations.
Even before the tournament began, Onana had disputes with the Cameroon national team. He clashed with the team president, Eto'o, over the return time to the national team. Onana wanted to delay reporting to the national team, fearing it would cost him his starting position at Manchester United. Eto'o, on the other hand, urged Onana to prioritize the national team and return promptly.
Ultimately, Onana delayed his return to the national team, missing the first match of the Africa Cup of Nations. However, the real controversy arose in the subsequent game when Onana failed to make any successful saves. Facing three shots on target, he couldn't stop any, leading to Cameroon's devastating defeat. Due to this dismal performance, Onana was benched in the next match. In response, Onana, with an audacious attitude, claimed that the national team did not respect him and contemplated quitting for the second time.
Faced with Onana's threat to quit the national team, the president of the Cameroon national team showed no mercy. In a public setting, he openly ridiculed Onana, stating that he lacked team spirit and had not contributed anything to the team. From these remarks, it appears that Onana will no longer receive special treatment at Manchester United. |
