Last season, the first thing to mention is the injury to the star player, Stephen Curry. Curry's impact on the Warriors is comprehensive. On the court, he is the one leading the team forward, and off the court, he holds the most significant influence within the team. Unfortunately, Curry got injured during a game and was expected to rest for 4 to 6 weeks. Curry's absence directly resulted in a losing streak for the Warriors. At that time, their winning percentage was 50%, with only a 0.5-game lead over the 11th-ranked Jazz and the 12th-ranked Trail Blazers in the Western Conference. If they didn't turn the situation around in time, the defending champions, the Warriors, might not even qualify for the playoffs.

The Warriors' management also realized the risk of missing the playoffs. So, they quickly made moves in the trade market. The main reason for the Warriors' declining performance this season was their defensive struggles. Two seasons ago, the Warriors had the second-best defensive efficiency in the league, but they had slipped to 18th place at that point in the season. Therefore, their goal was to acquire players with excellent defensive abilities.

In order to acquire excellent defensive personnel, the Warriors proposed a trade involving James Wiseman for Gary Payton II. Everything was going smoothly, but unexpectedly, during the medical examination, it was discovered that Payton had an injury, which led to the Warriors sending Wiseman away without being able to bring in Payton.

The Lakers maybe more stronger than the Warriors in 2023-2024 NBA season.
