Child gambling is becoming widespread in the UK, potentially bringing endless suffering to thousands of families. According to statistics from the UK Gambling Commission, in the past year, one in ten children frequently gambled using their pocket money, and over one-third of children had some form of gambling experience. In the last week alone, approximately 350,000 children engaged in gambling, with an average bet of £17 per person. Among children aged 11 to 16, 55,000 are significantly affected by gambling, classified as problem gamblers, while another 85,000 are at risk of developing an addiction.
Experts attribute this phenomenon to the frequent appearance of gambling advertisements during sports events and video games. Data analysis reveals that two out of five children place bets after seeing gambling advertisements. Children engage in various forms of gambling, such as private bets and card games with friends, or online and in betting shops. However, these activities are illegal for individuals under the age of 18. |
