Where did Qatar spend the money on the World Cup?
First of all, where did the money go?
For this World Cup, Qatar specifically hired David Beckham as an ambassador, which cost them a mere one-thousandth of the total expenditure!
Beckham's endorsement: $220 million – just a drop in the ocean...
So, where did they really spend it? Well, first off, Qatar built eight beautiful football stadiums.
Because Qatar is in the desert, the temperatures there are scorching, so these eight stadiums are equipped with complete air conditioning systems and advanced cooling technology.
Think about it, these are open-air stadiums for tens of thousands of people, so installing air conditioning must have cost a fortune!
They didn't stop at just air-conditioning the spectator stands; they even installed cooling systems beneath the playing field.
Each stadium also comes with complete facilities such as parks, hotels, shopping centers, and more.
But do you think these stadiums alone cost $220 billion? Definitely not! These aren't made of gold.
In reality, these eight sports venues cost a total of $6.5 billion, which is less than 3% of the total expenditure.
For example, the largest stadium, the Lusail Iconic Stadium, which will host the final, is already considered a top-tier facility, but it cost around $1 billion.
Speaking of the Lusail Iconic Stadium, the city it's located in, Lusail, is an entirely new city that Qatar has built over the past fifteen years!
Lusail City is divided into nineteen districts, including commercial areas, amusement parks, golf courses, shopping centers, hotels, schools, and more.
All of this was erected in just fifteen years, and the entire city has an advanced cooling system.
It relies entirely on renewable energy for cooling! How much do you think it costs to build a city?
The construction of Lusail City roughly cost $45 billion, but that's only one-fifth of the total cost.
