Craps Strategy: Don't Pass Line

If you're wondering if there's a strategy to increase your chances of winning, perhaps consider the Don't Pass Line bet. On the craps table with two dice, the Don't Pass Line bet might not be very obvious, but it indeed offers the best odds.

**Betting "Don't Pass"**

The Don't Pass Line bet is in contrast to the Pass Line bet. You win if a 2 or 3 is rolled, but lose if a 7 or 11 comes up (12 is a push, and the casino keeps its edge).

If the point is established, and the shooter rolls a 7 before hitting the point again, the Don't Pass bet wins. The house edge for Don't Pass Line bets is only 1.36%.

So, the Don't Pass Line bet provides you with the best opportunity to win. If you bet "wrong," meaning you go against the shooter and most other players, be prepared for some disapproving looks.

In online games, if going against the majority doesn't sit well with you, you can also opt for the Don't Pass Line bet.

**Craps Betting: Lay Odds Bet**

If you genuinely want to reduce the casino's edge, consider the Lay Odds bet for your Don't Pass Line bet. Just like the Free Odds bet for the Pass Line, the Lay Odds bet brings the casino edge down to 0.

With the Lay Odds bet for the Don't Pass Line, the casino's edge is less than 0.5%.

Since you can Lay Odds, you must place more than double your original bet to have the odds. For instance, if the point is 4 or 10, you have to bet double the amount on the Lay Odds bet at 1:2 odds. In other words, for every $1, you must bet an additional $2 to potentially win $1. Therefore, if you want your initial $5 Don't Pass Line bet to potentially win an extra $10, you have to bet $20.
