The 19-year-old all-rounder bowls off-break spin and bats right-handed. Since his debut in September 2022, James has been a regular on the domestic circuit in South Africa. During their July 2023 tour of Bangladesh, he played for the South Africa U19s, taking five wickets at an average of 28.8. With a best score of 34, he also scored 75 runs. James was appointed after the CSA removed David Teeger from the team's captaincy due to security concerns about the player's involvement in the Gaza-Israel conflict.
