In the hypothetical scenario of designing cricket from scratch, I would justify the inclusion of Leg Byes as a valid scoring method. When teams accumulate Leg Byes, it's often not a result of extraordinary batting skills or subpar bowling abilities. A key benefit of Leg Byes is the elimination of concerns about ambiguous situations. While it might be disheartening for a batsman to miss a milestone due to an umpire's incorrect Leg Bye call, the consequences would be far more severe if an entire team lost a game because Leg Byes were disregarded.

I'm interested in hearing alternative perspectives on the impact of Leg Byes on the dynamics of cricket.

Similar to LBW decisions for deliveries pitching outside the leg stump, the presence of Leg Byes aims to promote aesthetically pleasing cricket and keep the majority of the game within the corridor outside the off stump.

This is an example of poor bowling technique by a bowler. Most leg byes occur due to inaccurate deliveries, resulting in the loss of leg-side runs.

Proper leg byes play a minimal role in preventing negative bowling tactics, such as spinners consistently delivering the ball around the leg side of the three stumps.
