The ""Ruining Childhood"" series is something most of us are familiar with. However, official contributions to this trend are quite rare. Disney's live-action adaptation of ""The Little Mermaid"" faced controversy this year due to casting choices, with some believing it was ruining childhoods. But regardless of ""The Little Mermaid's"" reception, it pales in comparison to the upcoming live-action version of ""Snow White,"" which has undergone extensive changes that even prompted criticism from David Hand, the son of the original director of ""Snow White.""

The live-action adaptation of ""Snow White"" has been mired in controversy since the casting choices were revealed. One major point of contention is that Rachel Zegler, who plays Snow White, doesn't quite match the fair skin tone depicted in the animated film, and some argue she lacks the same level of beauty. The revelation that Gal Gadot, known for her role as Wonder Woman, would portray the Evil Queen also raised eyebrows. It's hard not to wonder if Disney is veering into dark humor territory, as the Magic Mirror couldn't possibly declare Snow White to be more beautiful if she's played by Gadot.

While the casting choices sparked debate, they didn't cause as much uproar as Rachel Zegler's comments did. During an event appearance, Zegler mentioned that the new Snow White would be entirely different from the original character. She explained that Snow White wouldn't be a girl yearning for true love but instead would become a leader. She even went as far as to say that portraying a story where a princess waits for a prince to rescue her in this day and age is quite peculiar. Zegler expressed her dislike for the original portrayal of the prince as something of a stalker. Furthermore, the new film might eliminate the prince's storyline entirely or drastically change it.

Zegler's comments ignited a firestorm of debate, with both supporters and critics voicing their opinions. However, the most significant backlash came from David Hand, who vehemently disagreed with Disney's overhaul of the story. He argued that Disney's approach showed a complete lack of respect for the source material and could even be seen as insulting. Hand also expressed concern about Disney's current creative direction, characterizing it as overly radical. He believed that if the new generation of creators had something they wanted to express, they should create new intellectual properties rather than attempting to remake or deconstruct classic and beautiful works.

The controversy surrounding Rachel Zegler's statements has seemingly pushed the live-action ""Snow White"" film to be postponed and potentially undergo reshoots, according to recent media reports. While opinions on this matter vary widely, many hope that the film ultimately adheres to the spirit of the original rather than becoming a sacrificial offering to certain egos.

A remake? It's not a simple endeavor, especially considering the hefty costs involved, primarily in terms of labor.

I totally agree. Most of these movies are meant for kids, and as a big director, you should at least consider the cast and storyline with that in mind. "The Little Mermaid" is supposed to be about a mermaid, and I really can't see any beauty elements in that actress with dark skin. Moreover, turning Snow White into someone so dark doesn't really capture the essence of her name.

Regardless, if you're going to portray Snow White, she should embody the pure and refreshing image that people hold in their hearts, or at least a recognizable variation of it. From the pictures above, I can't see Snow White's likeness at all; in fact, it looks somewhat frightening. This would definitely startle the prince, and it's far from the amiable princess image. Only someone like this actress could say such things; Snow White would never utter them. So, people won't like it. Change is possible, but it should be done with a sense of appropriateness. If it strays too far from the essence, why even use this story? Is it an attempt to ride on the coattails of this story's popularity?

A classic, ruined like this, will always be overshadowed by the beloved animated version.

You know, I've never set foot in a Disney park all my life. I really want to feel like a princess for a day.
