"Recently, the men's basketball World Cup is in full swing, and it has sparked a discussion. American sprinting superstar and world champion Noah Lyles, after winning the championship, expressed his confusion about why NBA champions are often referred to as world champions during interviews. This statement led to playful taunts from several NBA players, including Durant and Booker. So, what exactly is Noah talking about?

Recently, American sprinting sensation Noah Lyles, after winning a championship, not only gave his acceptance speech but also brought up the topic of NBA championships. In his view, he couldn't comprehend the mentality of those who claim to be world champions just because they've won the NBA championship. His exact words were, ""What saddens me the most is when I watch the NBA Finals, they give themselves the title of world champions. World champions? In America, right? Don't get me wrong, I love America, but that's not the whole world. We are the ones competing on a global level. We have athletes from nearly every country competing and representing their nations with flags on their uniforms. That means they represent their home countries. There are no world champions in the NBA.""

Noah's words do have their logic since NBA games are essentially contests between clubs, not international sports competitions. However, Noah's remarks did not sit well with many NBA superstars. For instance, Durant directly tweeted a sarcastic comment, asking who could help this guy, while Booker retweeted with a face-palm emoji. Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo chimed in with a chuckle, saying, ""Haha, will someone tell him?""

In objective terms, both sides have their own valid points. NBA players may consider winning an NBA championship as winning a world championship because the NBA is the highest-level platform in basketball, with the world's most exceptional basketball players competing there. Therefore, claiming to be world champions is not entirely inaccurate. However, Noah's perspective also has its merits. Just as in football, winning the UEFA Champions League doesn't make a club the world champion; we only say that about teams like the Argentina national squad, which won the FIFA World Cup. Even though we know that the UEFA Champions League represents the highest level of football, in the hearts of footballers, the World Cup championship holds much greater weight.

The ongoing men's basketball World Cup has indeed seen instances of athletes showing reluctance to participate, something that's less common in other sports. Perhaps this is the main reason why Noah's comments have sparked controversy. What are your thoughts on this?"

I don't understand it either, and I also support his statement. Strictly speaking, NBA champions are not truly world champions!

Noah Lyles' championship is the true, universally recognized world championship. NBA champions, on the other hand, are only champions of American basketball. Although they represent the highest level of basketball, they are not equivalent to world champions; they are champions in their hearts.

Football is the world's number one sport, and only the World Cup can truly be called the world championship. However, basketball is different; it's not as globally prominent as football and isn't considered a mass sport worldwide. In the world of basketball, the most famous competition is undoubtedly the NBA.

I used to think that the NBA was just a club competition, so it couldn't be classified as a national championship. However, this might be due to my limited understanding of the basketball world. Everyone has their own perspective.

If we want to be more precise, the Olympics held every four years are the true holy grail of national basketball. The ongoing Basketball World Cup is essentially a qualifying tournament for Olympic basketball.
