Craps Strategy: Don't Pass Line
If you're wondering if there's a strategy to increase your chances of winning money, consider the Don't Pass Line bet. On the craps table with two dice, the Don't Pass Line bet might not be very apparent, but it indeed offers the best odds.
**Betting on "Don't Pass Line"**
The Don't Pass Line bet is the opposite of the Pass Line bet. You win if a 2 or 3 is rolled, and lose if a 7 or 11 comes up (12 results in a push, and the casino retains its edge).
If, after the point is established, the shooter throws a 7 before hitting the point, the Don't Pass Line bet wins. Under the Don't Pass Line bet, the casino's edge is only 1.36%.
Therefore, the Don't Pass Line bet provides your best opportunity to win money. If you bet "wrong," meaning you go against the shooter and the majority of players, be prepared for some disapproving looks.
In online games, where betting against others might not be as enjoyable, you can still opt for the Don't Pass Line bet.
**Craps Betting: Lay Odds**
For a true reduction in the casino's edge, you can lay odds on your Don't Pass Line bet. Just as laying odds on a Pass Line bet gives players true odds, laying odds on a Don't Pass Line bet eliminates the casino's edge.
When you lay double odds on a Don't Pass Line bet, the casino's edge is less than 0.5%. Since you can lay odds, you have to place more than double the original bet to have the odds corresponding to double odds.
For example, if the point is 4 or 10, you have to lay odds at 1:2 odds, meaning you have to invest $2 for every $1 to win. Therefore, if you want to make an additional $10 on your $5 Don't Pass Line bet, you must invest $20.
**Craps Betting: Don't Come Bet**
Similar to the Come bet, which is designed for the next roll with a Pass Line bet, the Don't Come bet corresponds to your Don't Pass Line bet, even before the point is established. |
