The system for the roulette game needs to start betting a bit of time after the ball and wheel start spinning. This implies having a simple yet perfect countermeasure, which is to prohibit betting after the ball is thrown. Under such conditions, the most powerful strategy for roulette, in my opinion, is visual prediction.
However, in my research in various places around the world, including Reno, Las Vegas, London, Venice, Monte Carlo, and Nice, only a few locations prohibit betting after the ball is thrown. The usual practice is to shout 'No more bets' when the ball falls into the central 1 or 2 circles. Therefore, I believe that visual prediction is the most effective strategy for roulette.
The simple countermeasure in this casino raises two issues: (1) determining if accurate predictions can be made and obtained, first in theory and then in the casino; (2) concealing the system to prevent the casino from knowing it's in operation. If we can solve the prediction problem, then the camouflage problem is relatively easy to address. Having an observer as part of the system standing by the roulette wheel recording the numbers that appear seems unremarkable, especially when many people are doing the same. However, this observer also conceals a computer equipped with a stopwatch. His real job is to record the time of the ball and wheel (after we installed a toe-operated switch, leaving both hands free). The computer makes predictions and transmits the results via radio to the bettors. The bettors are located in places not easily visible to the ball and wheel, preventing attention from the casino. To ensure there's no correlation between the timer and the bettor, I would have several bettors, each equipped similarly to the timer. They move around randomly to avoid suspicion.
Critical bets will be placed after the ball is thrown. If a bettor consistently places such bets and consistently wins, they will quickly raise suspicion. To avoid this, I plan to have bettors also place bets before the ball is thrown. These pre-ball bets will be limited so that their negative expected value does not offset other positive expected value bets. |
