Mohammed Azharuddin is a polarising figure in the Indian cricketing circle. He was known for his sublime batting skills and as a captain of the Indian team. However, his career was marred by fixing allegations and embroiled in a number of controversies. How good was he as a captain? Was it too much for the media to criticize?

Azharuddin was a renowned batter of his generation. A wristy and a flamboyant batter, Azhar revolutionized the batting of his era. His captaincy record however was equally renowned. He led India in 174 ODIs and won 90 of them while in tests, he led India in 47 tests and won 14 of these tests. As a limited overs and a test captain, Azhar was one of the most successful Indian captains till Sourav Ganguly and MSD broke the records.

Md. Azharuddin had a stellar ODI and test captaincy tenure. He won 90 out of 174 ODIs as a captain and 14 of 47 tests. This record was nothing like before with the Indian team.
