November 18th news: According to sources cited by Bloomberg, there were extensive disagreements between Sam Altman and the OpenAI board before his dismissal, particularly with OpenAI co-founder and Chief Scientist Ilya Sutskever. The points of contention included opinions on artificial intelligence safety, the pace of technological development, and the commercialization of the company.
It is reported that these disputes reflect long-standing internal divisions at OpenAI over the development of powerful artificial intelligence tools, which have been plaguing the company since its inception. Similar safety and commercialization disputes were also reasons for Elon Musk severing ties with OpenAI in 2018, leading some employees to resign in 2020 and establish the competing company Anthropic.
In July, Sutskever formed a new team within the company aimed at controlling the future artificial general intelligence systems. A month ago, Sutskever's responsibilities within the company were reduced, reflecting friction with Altman and company president Greg Brockman. Following this, Sutskever appealed to the board, winning the support of some members. |
