Coinbase has developed an open-source on-chain payment protocol to enhance its business products. The protocol currently supports the Ethereum, Polygon, and Binance Smart Chain ecosystems. Coinbase announced on Thursday, "Today, we're excited to announce a major update to our Coinbase Commerce product, which now builds on our new open-source on-chain payment protocol. This protocol offers instant settlements, low fees, and broad asset support to improve the payment experience for merchants and their customers." Coinbase Commerce was launched in 2018 to assist merchants in accepting cryptocurrency payments. To date, thousands of merchants globally have received billions of dollars in on-chain payments through the Commerce platform, according to Coinbase. The company added, "However, merchants often struggle with the volatility of cryptocurrencies, and consumers find the payment experience daunting," stating that the updated Commerce product addresses these challenges.
