Perhaps LeBron James didn't anticipate being 'threatened' by the Lakers in the final glorious moments of his career.
Recently, there have been reports that LeBron James rejected the Lakers' offer of a 2-year, $97.1 million contract extension. He proposed three renewal conditions: the dismissal of General Manager Rob Pelinka, drafting his eldest son Bronny in the draft, and trading 2027 and 2029 draft picks to strengthen the team for championship contention. Unexpectedly, the Lakers' management not only refused to compromise but also rejected each of these three conditions. They stated that if LeBron James doesn't sign the contract extension, the Lakers will have to trade him.
Why would the Lakers' management dare to refuse LeBron James's demands? After all, the Lakers are currently in a challenging situation, especially with Anthony Davis injured. LeBron James, as the team's primary scorer, is crucial to the Lakers' success. Since he is so important, the logical move would be to keep him around. So, why would the management take the stance of 'either accept or leave'? I think the Lakers' management is gambling. They are betting that LeBron James wouldn't want to leave the Lakers, especially Hollywood.
