Players place their bets on the table, and then the dealer starts dealing cards. The player and the dealer take turns dealing cards, with the player receiving the first cards. In the initial deal, each player receives two cards face up, while the dealer receives one card face up and one card face down.

In baccarat, the value of K, Q, J, and 10 cards is considered 10 points. An A card can be counted as either 1 or 11 points, depending on the player's choice. When A is counted as 11, it's considered a "soft" hand (e.g., A-6 with a total of soft 17). When A is counted as 1, it's considered a "hard" hand (e.g., A-6-Q with a total of hard 17). All other cards from 2 to 9 are valued at their face value.

If a player is dealt an Ace and a 10 in their initial two cards, they have a "blackjack." In this case, if the dealer does not have a blackjack, the player wins 1.5 times their bet (2:3 payout). If the dealer has a blackjack while the player does not, the dealer collects the player's bet. Players without a blackjack can continue to draw cards to get as close to 21 points as possible without exceeding it. The player with the closest point total to 21 wins, and if there's a tie in points, it's a push (a draw). If a player exceeds 21 points, they "bust," and the dealer collects their bet without revealing their own hand. If the dealer exceeds 21 points, the dealer pays the player an amount equal to the player's bet.

If the dealer's hand has a total of less than 16, the dealer must draw another card until their total is greater than 16 or they bust, unless the dealer has a soft 16.

If a player's first two cards have the same value, they have the option to "split" their hand into two separate hands. Each hand receives an additional card, and a new bet is placed on the second hand. If the player's third card matches the first two, they can continue to split. However, if the player receives a fourth card of the same value, they cannot split it further.

Players can also choose to ""double down"" if they believe that a third card will help them beat the dealer's hand. In this case, the player's bet is doubled, and they receive only one additional card.

If the dealer's upcard is an Ace, players have the option to take "insurance." Insurance is a side bet that pays out if the dealer has a blackjack. If the player takes insurance and the dealer has a blackjack, the player wins the insurance bet. If the dealer doesn't have a blackjack, the insurance bet is lost, and the game continues as usual.

If a player reaches 21 points, they win the full payout.

If the dealer has a blackjack, they collect the player's bet, and the game proceeds accordingly.

Whether or not a player takes insurance, the dealer's hand is played out following the same rules.

"Insurance carries low risk, which is why it's particularly favored by everyone."
