Let me talk about the teams I consider title contenders. It contains some of my personal bias, but when it comes to watching football, there's always some subjectivity involved. So whether you agree or not, feel free to engage in friendly discussions.
1. Liverpool
Liverpool has always been a title-chasing team, but last season's injury issues and an aging midfield led to them missing out on the top four. However, with strengthened midfield, particularly with the acquisitions of World Cup champion McAllister and young talent Saboslloy, Liverpool has returned to their familiar form. Although they still face defensive issues and midfield depth concerns, their strong attacking transitions and firepower keep them in the title race. With only a 3-point gap behind the leaders after 8 rounds, Liverpool is definitely in the race. However, their high number of red cards this season is a concern.
2. Arsenal
Arsenal, who spent most of last season at the top of the table, couldn't hold on in the final stretch due to injuries and the young squad's inability to handle the pressure. This season, they have maintained their form, sharing the top spot with Tottenham after 8 games. Arsenal's style has become more mature, particularly in defense, with the addition of club legend Rice breaking their transfer record. Although it may not be as thrilling as last season, this more mature Arsenal could be better equipped for a title challenge.
3. Manchester City
Talking about Manchester City, I think we all know they've been quite dominant recently with six Premier League titles in the last six years, and a historic domestic treble last season. There's not much analysis needed here. However, their rare back-to-back defeats offer some insights into their vulnerabilities, primarily the absence of key midfielders De Bruyne and Rodri. The real standout issue was Rodri's suspension, as City lost all three games he missed due to a red card. He is arguably the most indispensable player for them. But his suspension also resulted from some of his fiery actions, so hopefully, he can control himself better in the future. With a healthy Rodri, City remains the strong favorite for a historic four-peat.
This turned out to be a bit long, but it's a labor of love. If you enjoy reading this type of article, feel free to engage in discussions. I can't wait for the new season to kick off next week. |
