In ancient times, early humans faced fairly average living conditions. Food was scarce, and agriculture had not yet been developed. The primary sources of food were hunting and gathering wild fruits and vegetables. To survive longer, people had to continuously store more food, trying to accumulate as much as possible. They wanted what they didn't have and desired even more once they had something.
So in modern times, no one really complains about having too much money! Even beggars gamble, and so do working-class individuals, and even big bosses. Some say that having a little extra money is enough for several lifetimes, but if you were in their position, would you be satisfied so easily?
When you can't afford a meal, you want a boxed lunch. When you have the boxed lunch, you want a drink. When you're well-fed and well-hydrated, you want a big house, a luxury car, and designer labels. Greed, without virtue or vice, drives progress.
Greed can magnify in gambling! If you have tens of thousands of dollars, would you only bet ten dollars each time? Most likely, you would increase your bets because you're not content. Small sums of money won't satisfy you; you want to win tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands with a single bet." |
