Indian tax authorities have demanded that Delta Corp, an Indian casino operator, pay INR 16.8 billion (approximately $202 million) in taxes. The Goods and Services Tax (GST) has "proposed" this amount to the company and its three subsidiaries, warning that failure to pay could lead to notices. It's reported that this GST claim is one of the highest claims made so far, and the tax authority is expected to further pursue taxes from online gambling companies.
Delta Corporation operates casinos in Goa and Sikkim and is also involved in online gambling operations. Additionally, the tax authorities have recently pushed for a 28% tax on online gambling, casinos, and horse racing, which could take effect as early as October. Delta Corp opposes this tax demand, stating that the tax is based on the total betting value rather than total gambling revenue. The company has stated that it will "seek all available legal remedies." |
