In infinite real money Texas Hold'em games, we categorize opponents into two types:
1. **Opponents to Avoid:** These are opponents you must steer clear of.
2. **Fish Who Will Multiply Your Wealth:** These are players who can significantly increase your chip stack.
Let's take a closer look at the characteristics of these two types of players:
**1. Opponents to Avoid:**
These opponents are adept at reading your cards, play aggressively, and can outwit you. They tend to steal pots with weaker hands, making it challenging for you to compete. In limited Texas Hold'em games, you can get away with playing strong starting hands and following positive expected value strategies even if there are a few better players at the table. However, in infinite games, facing off against stronger players poses a severe threat to your stack, and you should try to avoid them as much as possible.
If you're determined to play against these opponents, you should only play your very best hands and fold marginal hands. If you have the choice of seating positions, aim to sit behind them.
**2. Fish Who Will Multiply Your Wealth:**
We know that the key to your success lies in a few big pots, but smaller pots are equally important. Small pots help you accumulate chips and prepare for the opportunity to win big pots. Before discussing the characteristics of fish, let's first talk about how to exploit weaker players and win smaller pots.
**Exploiting Weak Players:**
- **Timid Players:** These players are extremely cautious, and you can take advantage of their tendencies. Be cautious not to steal from big pots; they often have something when they get involved.
- **Players Who Like to Raise with AK, AQ, and Similar Hands:** If you have good position, you can call them with junk hands. Typically, if they miss the flop, they will check, allowing you to steal. Don't worry too much about them having overpairs; they generally won't check on the flop if they do. If they bet on the flop, you should fold.
If you're lucky enough to flop two pair or better, and they have a big pair, don't hesitate to go all-in; they usually call. |
