The Bundesliga has long been dominated by Bayern Munich, who have won the league title for the past 10 years. This year, it seemed like Borussia Dortmund had a chance to break Bayern's streak, as they were two points ahead of Bayern going into the final round. Dortmund needed only a victory in the last match to secure the championship, marking their first title in a decade. Unfortunately, Dortmund stumbled at a crucial moment, and the victory slipped away from them.

In the final round, Dortmund faced the ninth-placed Mainz, who had suffered four consecutive losses. Given that Bayern Munich was trailing Dortmund by two points, many people expected Dortmund to win against Mainz and clinch the title. However, for reasons perhaps related to immense pressure, Dortmund got off to a disastrous start. They conceded two goals to Mainz early in the match, leaving the entire stadium of 80,000 fans in stunned silence.

After conceding two goals, Dortmund finally woke up and began to dominate possession, launching an onslaught against Mainz. However, it seemed like fate was against them as they had 29 shot attempts, including a missed penalty, but still couldn't manage to score three goals for a comeback. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich, who were also playing their final match, scored a late winner during injury time to complete a comeback and secure the league championship. This marked their eleventh consecutive league title.

After the match, most of Dortmund's players were seen sitting on the field, unable to come to terms with the fact that they had lost the championship. Many of them were disappointed in their own performances and wondered why they had faltered in such a crucial game. Some Mainz players even appeared to show sympathy for the Dortmund players and attempted to console them. However, it was all in vain, as Dortmund's players, coach, and the 80,000 fans in the stadium couldn't leave, shedding tears of disappointment.

This marked Dortmund's seventh runner-up finish in the last 11 years. Captain Marco Reus, who has been with Dortmund for 11 years, still couldn't bring home the championship. Dortmund's final-round performance was a heartbreaking story of a valiant effort that fell short. In the end, history tends to remember the winners, and Bayern's 11 consecutive titles will be celebrated, while Dortmund's agonizingly close miss will likely be forgotten. Do you think Dortmund defeated themselves in this situation?

The championship was right there, but they were hesitant and fearful. Dortmund indeed didn't deserve to win.

They'll surely continue to strive for it in the next season.
