Baccarat is a straightforward game where players bet on either the banker or the player. In addition to betting on the banker or player to win, if a player believes that the banker and player will tie, unable to determine a winner, they can bet on a tie. Players can also bet on pairs if they think that either the banker or player (or both) will receive a pair of cards, such as two 3s or two Queens.
However, when the bets from both the banker and the player exceed the table's maximum limit, the dealer will count the wagers in the banker, player, tie, and pair bet areas (commonly known as ""coloring up"") before dealing the cards. This is to indicate that the bets exceed the table's limit (which is typically indicated at each table), and players must reduce their bets to the allowed amount before the game begins. Besides setting maximum limits, each table also has a minimum bet requirement.
Furthermore, there's an unwritten rule in baccarat that the player who places the highest bet on either the banker or the player has the privilege of looking at the cards. If you have placed the highest bet for that round but do not wish to see the cards, you can place your chips in the online betting area, and the dealer will allow the player with the second-highest wager to view the cards.
Dealing and Point Calculation:
Baccarat is generally played with eight decks of cards (a shoe) that are shuffled and placed inside a shoe. After players have placed their bets, the dealer starts dealing two cards each to the banker and player, in the order of ""player, banker, player, banker."" The players who placed the highest bets on the banker and player sides get to view the cards, and the hands are compared based on the total value of the cards, without considering the suits. Cards with values 10 and face cards (J, Q, K) are counted as 0 points, and only the units digit of the total is considered (so totals of 11 and 21 both count as 1 point), making the highest possible point value 9.
If a player or banker has a total of 8 or 9 points, it's called a ""natural,"" and the game immediately determines the winner without drawing a third card. In all other cases, there's the possibility of drawing a third card, with a maximum of three cards per side.
Drawing Rules:
Although the drawing rules in baccarat may seem complex, players do not need to be familiar with them as the dealer follows these rules precisely. The decision to draw a third card for the player and banker is based on the total value of the first two cards and follows specific rules, as outlined in the table below.
Odds:
- Betting on the banker: Pays 1 to 1, with a 5% commission taken by the casino.
- Betting on the player: Pays 1 to 1.
- Betting on a tie: Pays 1 to 8.
- Betting on a pair: Pays 1 to 11. However, players must specify whether it's a ""banker pair"" or ""player pair"" before the cards are dealt, and if the pair doesn't match the chosen side, it's considered a loss." |
