Rules to Understand in Baccarat

Baccarat is a card game where you bet on the outcome rather than playing with your own set of cards. Some of the most important rules to remember are:

1. You can place one of three main bets: 'Player,' 'Banker,' or 'Tie.'
2. The winning hand will be the one closest to 9 compared to the other hand.
3. Baccarat is played with 6 or 8 decks of cards.

Card Value Rules:

While there are 13 different types of cards in a deck, understanding card values in online baccarat is straightforward, and you don't need to keep track of all 13 cards.

- Cards between 2 and 9 are valued at their face value. So, 2 is worth 2, 5 is worth 5, and so on.
- 10, Jack, Queen, and King are all valued at 10.
- An Ace (A) is valued at 1.
- If the hand's value goes over 10, the first digit of that value is dropped, and the second digit is counted as the 'true' value. For example, a hand with 8-8 cards adds up to 16, but its 'true' value is 6.

Baccarat Betting Rules:

While the main bets in baccarat are similar, the rules for baccarat betting vary slightly, making them distinct. Understanding the differences in baccarat betting rules will allow you to make informed decisions when placing your bets.

**Player:**
Betting on the 'Player' means you are betting that this hand will be closer to 9 than the 'Banker.' If you win, you'll receive a 1:1 payout. A specific rule for the player is that if the first two cards have a total point value less than 5, a third card is drawn for that hand. The player's betting advantage is 1.24%.

**Banker:**
The 'Banker' is the same but different from the 'Player.' This is the most popular bet in online real-money casinos because it has the lowest house edge of all bets, only 1.06%. However, due to a 5% commission fee, this bet pays 19:20 (0.9:1).

**Tie:**
The 'Tie' is the bet with the lowest winning probability among the three main bets, but it does offer enticing 8:1 odds. It requires both the 'Player' and 'Banker' hands to have the same value. However, the 'Tie' bet has a very high house edge compared to the other two bets:
- 6-deck game: 14.44% house edge
- 8-deck game: 14.36% house edge

Third Card Rules:

As mentioned in the rules about player bets in baccarat, a third card is added whenever the total value of the initial bet is less than 5. Whether a third card is added depends on the situation of the banker's hand.

Game Round Progression:

1. Place your bet on 'Player,' 'Banker,' or 'Tie.'
2. (Optional) Place any side bets.
3. The banker deals two cards to the 'Player' and two cards to the 'Banker.'
4. Flip all cards to reveal their values.
5. If your bet is a winner, you receive a payout.
6. Start a new round.

House Edge:

We previously mentioned a 5% commission for the banker bet. This is due to the lower house edge for that hand. When playing on a standard baccarat table with 8 decks, the banker wins 45.87%, loses 44.63%, and ties 9.51%. The player wins 44.63%, loses 45.87%, and ties the banker at the same rate.

Table Layout:

Baccarat players will be pleased to know that the baccarat table layout is one of the simplest among all online casino games! Typically, the table consists of only two parts: one labeled 'PLAYER' and the other labeled 'BANKER.' That's it! All betting options, side bet choices, and baccarat statistics are displayed on your digital betting interface.
