This set of methods is sometimes called the "scratch and scrape" technique. It's best to prepare paper and a pen...

Write down a sequence of gradually increasing numbers, for example, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. It can be as long as you like.

The amount you bet is equal to the sum of the first two numbers in your sequence. In this case, it's 1 + 5 = 6.

Place a bet of 6 (in dollars, euros, rubles, etc.) on your chosen color (red or black) and continue betting on that same color.

Start spinning the roulette wheel...

If you win, cross out the first and last numbers in your sequence. In this case, you would cross out 1 and 5, leaving you with a new sequence of 2, 3, 4. This means your next bet will be 2 + 4 = 6.

If you lose, add the amount you lost to the end of your sequence. In this case, add 6, so your sequence becomes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and your next bet will be 7.

Continue playing like this until you have no more numbers on your paper and have won.

The principle behind this method is that there are only two colors on the roulette wheel, so the pattern is such that if you don't bet on one color, you'll bet on the other. (It's possible to hit zero as well, but this doesn't happen frequently.) Therefore, the amount you win is roughly equivalent to what you've lost.

Now, pay attention—you've understood that you add a number when you lose and remove two numbers when you win. The key to this method is that your numbers on paper get crossed out quickly, and you end up winning.
