"The Premier League announced a few months ago that all 20 clubs have unanimously agreed to cease selling advertising space on the front of players' jerseys to gambling companies on match days. The Premier League is set to become the UK's first professional sports league to voluntarily reduce such advertising, with the agreement scheduled to take effect from the 2026/27 season. While front-of-shirt gambling ads are prohibited, advertising on shirt sleeves, stadium LED screens, and advertising boards will still be allowed.

According to reports from foreign media, prior to the above announcement, various parties, including the Premier League, all member clubs of the league, and the UK's Department for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport, engaged in multiple rounds of negotiations, led by the government, regarding legislation related to gambling projects. Additionally, the Premier League is committed to collaborating with other leagues to promote more effective guidelines for gambling sponsorships.

Among the current 20 Premier League clubs, 8 clubs have gambling companies' names featured on the front of their jerseys, with estimated annual revenue of £60 million from gambling advertising. These 8 clubs, including Newcastle, West Ham, Everton, Burnley, Bournemouth, Fulham, Leeds United, and Southampton, are expected to experience varying degrees of financial impact."

It seems that the teams are about to reduce a significant portion of their income.

If that's the case, will the players' income be reduced?

It's a measure taken by the English Premier League to address the impact of gambling on football and fans. Football betting is a huge industry in the UK but has also raised concerns about issues like gambling addiction and underage gambling. By reducing the presence of gambling advertisements, the Premier League hopes to decrease the association between football and gambling and protect the interests of the fans.

Nowadays, many sports leagues have adopted such advertising policies.
