As one of the world's foremost premium chocolate brands, GODIVA's chocolate history can be traced back to 1926. Inspired by the generous quality and pioneering spirit of Lady Godiva, the legendary name of GODIVA has become synonymous with the utmost delicious luxury chocolates worldwide.
The story of GODIVA chocolates originated in the European city of Coventry, where Lord Leofric imposed heavy taxes on the people. Lady Godiva, his kind and beautiful wife, couldn't bear to see the suffering of the people and implored her husband to reduce the taxes.
They made a wager that if Lady Godiva rode naked on horseback around the city with only her long hair covering her body, and if the entire population of Coventry kept their doors and windows closed without peeking, Lord Leofric would reduce the taxes.
The next morning, Lady Godiva rode around the city on horseback, completely unclothed, while the citizens of the city, out of respect, kept their doors and windows tightly shut, refraining from peeking.
Lord Leofric fulfilled his promise, and Lady Godiva's legendary tale has been passed down through generations to this day." |
