In the first quarter of this year, Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore reported a 12% increase in total gaming revenue, reaching SGD 530 million (approximately USD 397 million). According to the performance report from Resorts World Sentosa's casino hotel operations, as of March 31 this year, the first-quarter net profit after tax was SGD 129 million (about USD 97 million), more than double the net profit of SGD 40.4 million (about USD 30.3 million) for the same period in 2022. Despite the slowdown in the growth of international visitors, which has restricted the recovery of non-gaming businesses, and airlines' capacity has not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels, limiting the arrival of mid-tier guests, Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore stated that total gaming revenue increased by 12%, reaching SGD 530 million (approximately USD 397 million). Additionally, due to increased flight prices during the holiday season, there was a decline in overall non-gaming business revenue compared to the previous quarter, down by 15%.
According to reports, Resorts World Sentosa is implementing a plan called 'Sentosa World 2.0' to enhance the brand image of Sentosa World. The initial phase of this plan is referred to as 'Sentosa World 1.5', which involves the re-creation of facilities to enhance Sentosa World's appeal and meet the demands of the target market. This includes a comprehensive refurbishment of 389 guest rooms and the transformation of Festive Hotel into Hotel Ora, offering sustainable guest rooms and workspace to cater to the needs of young adults and frequent travelers. Hotel Ora is expected to commence trial operations in April 2023. With the opening of Hotel Ora, the resort's room count will increase to nearly 1,600 rooms. Other hotels like Michael Hotel and Crockfords Tower will also undergo phased renovations.
Liew Lan Hing, Secretary of Genting Group, mentioned that starting from May this year, Sentosa World will undergo a massive transformation to create a vibrant and sophisticated lifestyle destination. The plan aims to be completed by the end of 2024, with the total floor area increasing by more than double to approximately 20,000 square meters, offering various upscale restaurants, boutiques, and iconic concept stores. Universal Studios' Minion Land and the S.E.A. Aquarium in Singapore are also part of the ongoing 'Sentosa World 2.0' construction projects. According to the group, these projects are progressing smoothly and are planned to begin trial operations in early 2025." |
