The Professional Basketball Writers Association (PBWA) has announced that Golden State Warriors' star player, Stephen Curry, has been honored with the Walter Kennedy Best Citizen Award for the 2022-23 season.
The Walter Kennedy Best Citizen Award has been presented annually by the PBWA since 1975, recognizing players, coaches, or other personnel who have made outstanding contributions to society. The award is voted on by members of the NBA professional journalist association, including reporters regularly covering NBA-related news in newspapers, magazines, and online media. Nominations are made collectively by the association, with the winner determined by approximately 150 members' votes, with the nominee receiving the most votes ultimately receiving the award. Many past recipients of the award have been individuals who have made significant contributions to charitable causes.
In the PBWA's official announcement, it was noted that Curry has actively worked to improve youth literacy, health, and nutrition while advocating for gender equality in sports. The Curry family's foundation has made significant efforts towards the healthy development of young people." |
