Las Vegas is ranked as the 11th worst city in terms of hotel services, based on a survey conducted with the help of 7.8 million TripAdvisor reviews by Planetware.com. This survey aimed to provide a rough outline of which cities need improvement in this aspect. Although many other cities had worse conditions, few rely on tourism as heavily as Las Vegas does. Essentially, the survey used all 7.8 million responses to assess public opinions and personal experiences with 9,000 hotels in up to 95 cities across the United States.

A total of 800,000 negative reviews were analyzed in this process, with the survey showing that in TripAdvisor's five-star rating system, one or two-star reviews were considered negative. Las Vegas currently employs 300,000 people working in hotels, and they may need to double their efforts to satisfy guests. Planetware goes on to explain that most of the negative reviews are related to rude staff, not to say that all staff members are rude, but rather that guests' perceptions of a hotel are formed based on individual interactions. Frontline staff, like those at the front desk, can have a significant impact on how guests assess their hotel experience.

The good news is that the type of criticism disappointed guests have to leave goes beyond their interaction, meaning it can be addressed through systemic changes. For example, guests have been complaining about the smell of smoke, confirming an ongoing debate that smoking often damages the hotel industry's business. Other common complaints include a lack of toilet paper, thin walls (making it easier to hear neighbors), and bedbugs. Poor service ranks fifth among national guest complaints.

On the bright side, Las Vegas is not the worst city on this list. Cities with overall poor service are often Miami Beach, Florida, Key Largo, Florida, and New York, New York. However, as mentioned earlier, these cities do not necessarily try to promote themselves as tourist-friendly places, even though they certainly attract their fair share. Better yet, when the survey changed parameters and conducted a parallel comparison, the headline "The 15 Worst Cities for Hotels" found Atlantic City very close to the top of the negative ranking list, giving Las Vegas a distinct advantage over Atlantic City in a sense. Nevertheless, among all the Las Vegas hotel reviews left to TripAdvisor, 10% were negative, meaning they were either one-star or two-star reviews.

Even the worst hotels have rankings, but I wonder where you can find the best hotel services.

This is a bit unexpected; I thought high-end hotel services would definitely be good, but it turns out otherwise. However, after reading the reasons, I have a rough idea that it might be due to the quality of the guests.

Las Vegas is known as the "Sin City," right?

I didn't expect that at all. Very surprising indeed.
