No miracles, no magical moments. After defeating West Ham United 3-1, Manchester City secured this season's Premier League title with a 2-point lead over Arsenal, achieving the feat of four consecutive championships. However, today's focus is not on Manchester City, but on Arsenal, who despite their best efforts, only managed to secure second place. They performed admirably, but against Manchester City, it was still not enough.
This season, Arsenal achieved a record of 28 wins, 5 draws, and 5 losses in 38 league matches. Their 28 wins set a record for the most wins in their Premier League history, while their 89 points marked the second-highest total since the unbeaten season. Additionally, their 91 goals scored also set a new club record. However, despite breaking so many records, the team still couldn't win the championship, simply because they encountered a more formidable opponent: Pep Guardiola's Manchester City.
Furthermore, Arsenal's performance in top-six clashes this season was outstanding. In the "Big Six" encounters, they remained unbeaten with 6 wins and 4 draws in 10 matches, ranking first among the Big Six teams. Arsenal is no longer the team that used to crumble under pressure. Additionally, after a seven-year absence, they made a decent return to the Champions League this season. Breaking a long-standing curse, they advanced to the quarter-finals and narrowly lost 1-0 to the Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
However, despite all these achievements, ultimately, a championship is needed to be convincing. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed his gratitude to the over 60,000 home fans after the season ended, stating that the team has always been grateful for the fans' support. While not winning the championship was disappointing, the fans made them believe that they will eventually win it. Arsenal will not settle for this, and they hope the fans will have higher expectations for the team. Arsenal believes that one day they will realize their dream. |
