If in a season you were to lose just one game while winning all the others, the last game you'd want to lose would definitely be in the final. But reality is often cruel. After maintaining an undefeated status throughout the season, the newly crowned Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen suffered a crushing defeat against Atalanta in the Europa League final, missing out on the treble. Players from the team expressed the agony of the loss.

This season, Leverkusen rose unexpectedly, maintaining an unbeaten streak across all competitions. Facing 27 different teams, Leverkusen eventually secured their first Bundesliga title in their 120-year history with a record of 28 wins and 6 draws. This season was phenomenal for Leverkusen. Their goal was to also clinch the Europa League and the German Cup, becoming the undisputed treble winners.

However, reality seemed to play a cruel joke on Leverkusen. Despite their unbeaten streak throughout the season, they unexpectedly lost in the Europa League final. The players seemed to be sleepwalking through the game as Leverkusen was defeated by three goals against Atalanta, the fifth-placed team in Serie A. Their expected goals for the game were only 0.77, marking the first time this season that Leverkusen's expected goals did not exceed one, showing their complete defeat.

After the match, Leverkusen player Hofmann expressed disappointment with their performance and, when referring to the 51-game unbeaten streak, stated that he would rather trade a league defeat for a victory today. Losing in the final was truly painful. As for Leverkusen coach Alonso, he acknowledged that defeat was inevitable and stated that he would calmly accept it. However, undoubtedly, losing in the final brings a sense of frustration. Nonetheless, Alonso firmly believes that the team will return stronger, and next season's Leverkusen will be even more formidable.

Many were shocked by Leverkusen's loss this time... Was it the opponent's strength or Leverkusen's lackluster performance?

It's just like acting, football, you know. If the plot doesn't have some ups and downs, how can it captivate the audience? As long as the outcome is good, there's no problem at all.

"For this match, all I can say is it's just too unfortunate. But there's nothing we can do. Leverkusen's odds were just too high. The initial handicap was set at half a ball, and it was immediately raised to one-half. At that moment, I felt like something was off with Leverkusen. It seemed like they could only win the championship through extra time or penalties. On the day of the match, the odds changed back to half a ball just before the game, and the odds for the upper hand kept rising. At that point, I knew that Leverkusen couldn't win the game in 90 minutes. The result of this match was even more disastrous than I imagined. Atalanta went all out, scoring two goals in the first half and a perfect 3-0 in the second half, taking away the game and the Europa League championship. Leverkusen fought hard all season but never had such a disastrous match. Although winning the Bundesliga this season was very successful, and the Europa League is not as valuable, it's still a European league championship. Leverkusen has never won a European championship in its history, so this match was quite regrettable for them. Fortunately, Leverkusen managed to clinch the German Cup final a few days ago, defeating the opponent 1-0 and winning the German Cup championship, achieving a double championship result, which is quite an impressive season outcome. As for the European championship, let's look forward to it next season.

Congratulations to Atalanta as well. They truly are remarkable. They showcased the essence of Italian football to the fullest and won the European championship against all odds."
