Recently, someone around me attempted suicide due to depression and was hospitalized. Upon looking into it, I was shocked to discover that there are so many cases of suicide due to depression. It's really alarming. I feel like our understanding of depression is still lacking. Depression is not a trivial matter; it must be taken seriously. Every year, more people than you can imagine lose their lives because of it.
First of all, many people think that depression is just feeling sad, but don't think like that. It's not just ordinary sadness; it's deep-seated despair and helplessness. Sometimes, it can even push you to the brink of despair, making life seem utterly meaningless. Moreover, depression doesn't discriminate based on age, gender, or social status. Anyone can be affected. It's like catching a cold; anyone can get infected. So, don't think you're exempt, because the next person could be you.
What's worse is that many people turn a blind eye to depression, treating it as a minor issue. They think that "just cheer up" or "don't think too much" will solve it. But the truth is, depression is not that easy to shake off; it requires serious attention and professional help. We must not forget that depression is a serious health problem. Apart from affecting mental health, it also has adverse effects on the body. Long-term depression may increase the risk of diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and may even lead to suicide. |
