After being sacked by Roma last year, renowned coach Mourinho, despite expressing his desire to return to coaching multiple times publicly, has yet to find a new job. In a recent interview, he talked about his regret for staying at Roma after being fired, admitting that he regretted staying due to emotional reasons. He mentioned having many choices at the time but chose to stay because of emotional attachment. Looking back, he wouldn't have made the same choice.

Despite initial success, Mourinho's collaboration with Roma had its honeymoon phase, such as leading Roma to win the UEFA Conference League against the odds. However, the turning point came when Roma lost the UEFA Europa League final the following year. At that time, Mourinho and Roma were in talks to extend their contract. Both sides believed that losing the final shouldn't be a reason to give up, so they chose to renew the contract and continue their cooperation to pursue more honors.

In a recent interview with The Telegraph, Mourinho talked about his regret for renewing his contract with Roma and admitted that he received lucrative offers from the Portuguese national team and Saudi Arabia at the same time. Even his friends, family, and agent advised him to leave after the UEFA Europa League final last year. However, he felt the "emotional" attraction of Roma at the time, which led him to make the decision to renew the contract. This was the first time in his life that he stayed with a team for "emotional" reasons.

Looking at the outcome, undoubtedly, the renewal was not the best decision for both sides. Roma sacked Mourinho, and Mourinho regretted renewing his contract. Subsequently, Mourinho talked about his hopes for the future, expressing his desire for fair treatment if he coaches again. He hopes the outside world won't be so harsh on him and won't have overly high expectations, such as expecting him to coach a team almost relegated but with the goal of winning the Champions League, which he believes is unfair.

Mourinho's job market isn't looking good. Despite being out of work for so long, there's been no news of him reaching an agreement with any team. Newcastle is often mentioned, but I doubt their owner would hire him, Mourinho's too flashy, while the Saudi owners prefer a low profile. Big clubs won't invite him, and smaller ones don't meet his standards. Roma, for instance, is a mid-table team with limited investments, they even sell good players for profit. After winning the Europa League, Mourinho should've left. Inter fans love him because he left after winning the Champions League. He played a role in Chelsea's rise but got sacked twice. Real Madrid saw success under him but couldn't avoid sacking him. It's a cycle: success earns admiration; failure leads to criticism. Winning the Europa League and leaving was wise, settling for runner-up and staying was second-best. Unfortunately, Mourinho loves Roma and chose to stay this season, only to be sacked by a mid-table team. With the Euros coming up, hopefully, a national team will invite him afterward, preferably one contending for titles, as his tactics suit knockout competitions.

Mourinho is my favorite coach. He's somewhat similar to Klopp, both are passionate individuals who wholeheartedly invest emotionally in the teams they manage. From Porto to Chelsea, then to Inter Milan, and on to Real Madrid, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and now Roma, I've followed him every step of the way. His dedication to each team is evident to us as fans, but unfortunately, not always recognized by the team owners. They perceive Mourinho as too hard-nosed. It's somewhat like the dynamic between technical and managerial personnel nowadays. Technical personnel often focus solely on their craft, paying little attention to office politics. However, managers, lacking technical expertise and often with too much idle time, tend to ponder over which subordinates show them sufficient respect. If they feel disrespected, they may scheme behind their backs. Mourinho has always played this role. However, due to his exceptional talent and extensive coaching experience, some owners don't oppress him too much. But when results falter, they unleash their frustrations, subjecting him to harsh criticism. That's why Mourinho and Klopp's hair turn grey so quickly. As fans, it's heart-wrenching to witness......

I think the fundamental issue lies in values. Mourinho can no longer provide the club with value that matches his salary. Anyway, Roma is just a mid-table team in Serie A. Instead of spending heavily on a coach, they should invest more in overall improvements.
