Lewandowski finally made it to the World Cup knockout stage, and it might be his first and last time. After Poland's loss to France, Lewandowski concluded his World Cup journey. His last touch in the World Cup was a goal, the most romantic way to bid farewell. One can't help but wonder if Lewandowski envies Mbappé for the resources available to the French national team. For Lewandowski, this is a luxury. In the Bundesliga, Lewandowski truly became a world-class striker: 7 times Bundesliga top scorer, 5 times German Cup top scorer, and 1 time Champions League top scorer. Two European Golden Shoes further prove his prowess. Lewandowski's only regret at the club level is the Ballon d'Or, unlike Sneijder and Ribéry, who were equally wronged. Lewandowski's regret is even more piercing. Due to the pandemic, France Football canceled the 2020 Ballon d'Or selection, and that year, Lewandowski won the treble with Bayern Munich, fulfilling his Champions League dream. He even won the FIFA Best Men's Player award for two consecutive years but couldn't become the first forward to win the Ballon d'Or after Messi and Ronaldo. This echoes his fate with the national team. Despite these regrets, Lewandowski has won too much. People have a glimmer of hope for Poland precisely because of Lewandowski's presence, even though he can never have a group of world-class teammates in the national team. It's a shortcoming but also makes him precious in Poland. He is undoubtedly Poland's greatest in history.
