March 7th News: Today, the Lakers lost to the Kings 120-130 at home. After the game, Lakers head coach Darwin Ham was interviewed.
Regarding the team's 19-point lead in the first quarter turning into a second-quarter reversal, Ham said, "I think we started the game off well, capitalizing on some of their mistakes and missed shots to create some fast breaks. Our early defense was great, our starters did an incredible job, setting the tone early. Then some bad fouls, bad turnovers, gave them some easy transition opportunities, their DHO tactics, a bit like stagger tactics to penetrate the inside, hitting some tough shots. We need to maintain the urgency, regardless of whether it's good or bad, every possession should be treated that way.
"We talked about having the mindset to play well in the next possession, but when things started to go against us, we became discouraged. I think the referee's calls, I'm not blaming the calls, I think we allowed them to bother us. We started the game off well, but just couldn't sustain it." |
