March 4th News: Former NBA player Gilbert Arenas recently participated in an interview on a show, during which he shared his views on European players.
"You have to go to college to learn defense. What colleges did European players attend? They didn't go to college at all. They lack athleticism, speed, and bounce. They are a burden defensively for their teams. Now there are probably about 150 European players in the NBA, can you name a few European players who are in the top 10 in defense in the league? None! Only Rudy (Gobert) and the Greek Freak (Giannis Antetokounmpo). Besides them, the rest of the European players are offensive-minded players, they don't play defense," Arenas said.
"The physicality in the NBA has been weakened, they did this for the European player market. When those European players first came into the league, it was too hard for them, very hard to survive in the league. In the end, the NBA relaxed the rules for them. The NBA league didn't relax the rules for American players, but to expand the international player market," Arenas added.
