Former Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting, who guided his team to two consecutive World Cup titles in 2003 and 2007, has hailed young batsman John Fraser McGurk as a potential Test sensation. Ponting made the comments while talking to a West Australian media outlet after being appointed as the head coach of the Washington Freedom for the second season of the Major League Cricket. Ponting was full of praise for Fraser McGurk, who has made remarkable progress in his career. The 21-year-old switched from Victoria to South Australia before the start of the current domestic season and has been in the limelight ever since. Ponting said that Fraser-McGurk’s batting style reminded him of Warner, who became one of Australia’s best openers, and that the youngster was on a similar path. Ponting also compared Fraser-McGurk’s aggressive batting to that of Shahid Afridi, the former Pakistan captain and all-rounder. Fraser McGurk made headlines last year when he blasted a stunning domestic hundred in just 29 balls, ending up with 125 off 38 balls. That performance brought him into the spotlight and he has been a force to reckon with ever since.
