RP Singh, the former Indian left-arm pacer, praised the skill and intelligence of Ashwin, who is on the verge of joining the 500 Test wicket club. He said Ashwin knows how to bowl to different batsmen and keeps adding new variations to his off-spin. RP Singh was speaking on Cricbuzz's "Chatter" show on X (the new name of Twitter). He said Ashwin always tries to be ahead of the game and learns from his experience. He reminded that Ashwin made his debut in 2010 and played his first Test in 2011 against West Indies in Delhi. RP Singh was impressed by how Ashwin dismissed Ollie Pope and Joe Root in quick succession on day 4 of the second Test in Vishakhapatnam, where England are struggling to chase 399. "He experiments a lot with his bowling. He can bowl from both sides of the wicket and get wickets. He has also got wickets by bowling round the wicket and outside off stump to catch the edges," RP Singh said. RP Singh also said that Ashwin has transformed himself and bowls with a new mindset. "Ashwin has improved a lot as he is bowling with a new and better skillset and a new approach. He has been a great asset for Indian cricket. He is not like other Indian spinners who only do well in home conditions." "He is unique because his bounce is different, his action is classical. His bowling is very elegant and that is why he is so successful in overseas conditions as well" - RP Singh signed off.
