The ECB is pissed off with the BCCI for the timing of the WPL. The tournament finishes on March 17, just before the England Women’s team tours New Zealand.
The ECB asked the NZC to change the series dates but they said no. They said they had fixed the schedule in July last year and the WPL’s late schedule has messed up England’s plans for their 5-match T20s and 3-match ODI series.
The series starts on March 19 with the first T20I in Dunedin and ends on April 7 with the third ODI in Hamilton.
The series starts on March 19 with the first T20I in Dunedin and ends on April 7 with the third ODI in Hamilton.
The series is very important for both teams as they will prepare for the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh in September.
England head coach Jon Lewis said that the ECB tried to get all their players for the New Zealand series, but it was not possible. He blamed the BCCI for taking too long to release the WPL schedule. He told ESPNCricinfo
We tried our best to make sure all our players were ready for the New Zealand series, but it was not possible. There are things that other boards could have done differently, but they are out of our control. We have to deal with the situation as best as we can, it’s very unusual and complicated. We talk to each player and figure out what is the best plan for them.”
The ECB also said that they asked their players to leave the WPL early but that is unlikely to happen. “All players in the WPL have our support to stay in India for the whole tournament.” - an ECB official said.
