"When I found out that Portugal would be facing Morocco in last year's World Cup, I underestimated Morocco and believed that Portugal reaching the semifinals would be an easy feat. I was daydreaming about defeating Morocco and then one of the English or French teams in the semifinals, leading to a dream showdown between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the final. It would have been the perfect culmination of my youth. However, Morocco's tenacious performance denied the occurrence of such a dream showdown and showed the world that perhaps the protagonist of the script was not Ronaldo and Portugal but Morocco.
As I watched Cristiano Ronaldo walk back to the locker room and couldn't hold back his tears, I felt genuinely upset. His embarrassing statistics of no goals and assists in the World Cup knockout stages would haunt him for the rest of his life. On the other hand, Messi continued to lead Argentina triumphantly, with a greater number of Ballon d'Or awards than Ronaldo. As a die-hard Ronaldo fan, I admit that he truly fell short in the World Cup.
