On December 31st, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin published an article reviewing the roadmap updates for Ethereum in 2023. He mentioned that as Ethereum's technical path continues to consolidate, there have been relatively few changes, making it practically very similar to 2022. The key points include:

The Merge: The role of Single Slot Finality (SSF) in the PoS improvement post-merge is consolidating. It is becoming increasingly evident that SSF is the simplest way to address many weaknesses in the current design of Ethereum's PoS.

The Surge: Significant progress has been made in both EIP-4844 and rollup itself. Surge (rollup expansion) is considered an area that requires long-term improvement, including cross-rollup standards and interoperability.

The Scourge: After a certain degree of redesign, the current focus is on combating economic centralization in PoS in two critical areas: (i) MEV, (ii) general staking pool issues.

The Verge: Substantial progress has been made, and the Verkle tree is ready to be included.

The Purge: "State expiry" has been reduced to reflect the widespread consensus that it is a relatively low-priority and low-urgency project, especially considering stateless clients and PBS/execution proofs.

The Splurge: VDF has been narrowed down due to cryptographic weaknesses in the existing structure, reflecting a temporary reduction in focus.

This is something that needs to be understood as well, right?
