In general understanding, why do all athletes strive for championships? Of course, honor is the main reason, but beyond that, championships can help athletes increase their visibility and earn more money. However, not all athletes are like this. For example, recently crowned champion and Denver Nuggets' key player, Nikola Jokic, has lower endorsement fees compared to other NBA superstars, earning only $2 million, which is even less than some players who have never won championships.

Firstly, we can see that the business sports media Boardroom shared the specific endorsement earnings of the top 9 MVP players from last season on social media. The players at the top of the list are mostly those we are familiar with, including LeBron James ($90 million), Kevin Durant ($48 million), Stephen Curry ($45 million), James Harden ($36 million), and Giannis Antetokounmpo ($36 million). It's not surprising to see these players on the list since they have been in the NBA for many years and have earned numerous accolades.

However, the next part is a bit surprising. This season, the NBA Finals MVP, Jokic, who led the Denver Nuggets to the championship as their absolute core player, only has $2 million in endorsement fees. He is not only far from the first-place player but also has at least a 25-fold difference from the second-place Durant. His endorsement fees are even lower than those of Joel Embiid, who was mocked by NBA fans throughout this season. This situation is puzzling. Moreover, someone found out that Jokic's endorsement fees are even less than some players who have never been selected to the All-NBA Team, such as Jamal Murray and Brandon Ingram, who both earn $3.5 million in endorsement earnings.

Why is the endorsement fee for an NBA champion and FMVP so low? It's mainly because Jokic doesn't pay much attention to image management in his daily life and hasn't invested much effort in that aspect. Additionally, Jokic is not an American player, which has caused him to face disadvantages in endorsements. Although Jokic's endorsement fees are very low, the contract he received from the Nuggets is among the highest in the entire NBA, so he might not be too concerned about having lower endorsement fees. After all, he's the happy, jolly guy who enjoys horseback riding and drinking cola during vacations.

Championships and commercial value are two separate matters; these two are never equivalent.

Sometimes a player's endorsement fees are not solely determined by their performance. Even if Doncic were to win a championship, his endorsement fees wouldn't increase significantly.

How overweight is Jokic to be called a "chubby boy"?

The credit for the championship definitely can't solely belong to him, or perhaps he hasn't been fully recognized yet.

However, the fees for such endorsements are still quite high.
