Every NBA player trade is accompanied by vast interests at stake, yet some still view the NBA as a place to chase dreams rather than fame and fortune. Recently, NBA superstar James Harden discussed his feelings about his milestone 15-year career and admitted that he only realized NBA is a business after playing for 15 years.

Harden, a seasoned NBA star, has been both celebrated and criticized. His skills are unquestionable; since entering the NBA in 2009, he has amassed numerous accolades. However, despite high expectations, his playoff performances have consistently fallen short of satisfaction, making an NBA championship an elusive goal for him. Despite partnering with Howard, Paul, and Westbrook while with the Rockets, success remained elusive.

In pursuit of his dream, Harden declined a high-paying contract from the Rockets to join the Nets, forming a trio with Irving and Durant to contend for the championship. However, Durant faced injuries, and Irving had off-court issues, resulting in the Nets' performance falling below expectations. After a circuitous journey, Harden joined the 76ers alongside Embiid, not only taking a pay cut but also altering his playing style to accommodate Embiid, all in pursuit of his coveted championship trophy. Yet, Embiid resisted changing his playing style, and the 76ers' management was frugal. Ultimately, despite their depleted roster, the 76ers fell short of a championship this season.

Seeing the 76ers' situation, Harden grew disheartened and decided to leave the team this summer. However, the 76ers have yet to grant him permission to leave, leaving him waiting and hoping for the green light. This is why Harden mentioned that the NBA is just a business during the interview. He has repeatedly sacrificed his interests by taking pay cuts for the team, only to receive ingratitude in return. Perhaps his statement stems from his frustration with these experiences.

Harden himself is not without his flaws, but the NBA is undeniably more than just a place for chasing dreams. It encompasses a multitude of factors. Hence, when Harden discussed this in the interview, his expression likely conveyed a sense of resignation mixed with understanding.

Very few people are willing to sacrifice their own interests for the sake of the team.

Harden's market recognition has declined significantly, and he is no longer seen as a franchise cornerstone. His contract price is also difficult to justify for his performance, putting him in an awkward position of being neither high-value nor low-cost.

Harden's basketball talent is unquestionable, as he has repeatedly demonstrated remarkable scoring abilities and skills on the NBA court. However, his playoff performances have consistently been a topic of controversy throughout his career, and they represent a lifelong pain for him.

Despite his impressive performances in the regular season, his play during critical moments in the playoffs seems to have fallen short of people's expectations, and it has even caused many of his fans to lose hope.
